Abstract

Lesions of the anterior and medical parts of the thalamus are often accompanied by memory dysfunction. Balateral lesions may produce major memory deficits that have something been reported to last for several years. Unilateral lesion may also be associated with memory dysfuction which is usually less severe and persistent and may be linked to a selective field of memory. We report two amnesic patients with isolated infarct in the polar territory of the left thalamus. This cases demonstrate that unilateral left thalamic infarction in the polar territory can be presented with isolated verbal amnesia with relatively preserved visuospatial memory function and slow lateralization of memory dysfunction after thalamic infarction which is not always present.
